Network and system requirements

Operating system and requirements

PASS barcode tracking software runs on Microsoft Windows 7 and 10. The minimum space requirement is: 500mb free hard disk space with 1 gb RAM. We provide a SQL Express database that needs about 2.5gb if SQL Express needs installing addtionally. Otherwise we provide a Microsoft Access database. You do not need a copy of Microsoft Access. PASS Mailroom needs another 1gb. The database can get up to 10gb on SQL Express but in most circumstances it should not grow more that 1-2gb. 1gb is approximately 50k records if you use signatures. If you use photos it takes around 20k-25k records per gb. If you need an archive database to retrieve archived records then that would take another 1-2gb so in total a complete system would have a space requirement of 8gb. If SQL is put on a separate server then it would only need 1gb for Mailroom. The system is land based not cloud based as this is a requirement for some GDPR applications. The data can sit on a remote server inside a VPN and then accessed from an unlimited number of terminals. Licencing is per PC/Workstation. PDA licences are free.

Database

The default database is Microsoft Access. It is not necessary to have a copy of Access to run the software. For heavyweight applications other databases are supplied namely SQL Express. IF you have SQL server the minimum version should be 2012.

Exporting data

All your reports can be exported to your own system. All the reports have this same header. The Save option enables you to save as an Excel file or pdf. The search option on the right searches through the report just produced.

Importing data

Your existing or revised data can be imported from a spreadsheet or csv file. The Locator import templates are specifically written to integrate Excel worksheets and once set up matching columns to fields. The import process can be reused to update the Locator database with new details.

Reports

A series of filters defining, recipients, item codes, senders, date range and location parameters enables you to refine the reports narrowly. If the filters still provide too much information then the search option will find the exact record you are looking for within the reports taking you to the line entry directly.

PDAs with scanners

We support most PDAS with Android o/s. We also support Windows mobile but although they can connect and run succesfully, Microsoft  no longer supports Windows mobile and we would recommend Android PDAs for new installations.

Tethered  scanner guns

These can be either USB Serial or USB Wedge type

Real time scanners

Short range wireless scanners and Bluetooth scanners are supported as well as 802.11 environments. Landline modems or GPS can be used for data transmission from the PDAs to the central database.

Label printers

All thermal and thermal transfer printers are supported that have a Windows   driver. For example Zebra, TSC, CAB, Intermec etc.
