Considerations for safe package collection and delivery

There are many large carrier systems that have barcode forms accompanying the parcel but the smaller ones do not. For small companies with most employees now working from home the home workers need to send and receive documents and parcels, some of which need tracking. There are several factors to consider in order to safely collect and deliver packages to home workers.

The home worker enters the item on the company intranet web page which generates an internal tracking number. The home worker writes the tracking number on the package and the recipient office destination postcode- for example 1234567 ABC Ltd AL74 DK. On receipt from the carrier the office scans the carrier barcode and links it to the parcel record at which point the PASS Mailroom internal delivery system takes over with email advice to the office recipient.

Why Photo POD replace signatures

You can take a picture of the person / location / parcel to verify delivery of the parcel, to replace the need to collect a signature, this way collection and delivery of the assist social distancing. If the office uses its own delivery van then the driver takes a photo PDA or leaves it somewhere safe at a prearranged place with a photo taken of the location. The central database shows the date on the photo and the photo itself.

Quarantining

On arrival of a package it goes into a quarantine location. An email goes to the addressee notifying the arrival time and release time. The email also includes the date the item will be out of quarantine with a time slot for collection. This avoids too many people all collecting at the same time. If the time slot is not possible then a new time slot can be agreed.
